The NCAA 13 PS3 or XBOX 360 purchase dilemma.
Posted on June 29, 2012 at 05:31 PM.
As July 10th rapidly approaches, another year of NCAA football will be released. I'm pumped and cant wait to tear open the shrink wrap and rip into a new Dynasty. I cant wait to see who makes the best custom roster this year, and who hammers out the most realistic slider set. There is only one problem distilling my excitement; what system to buy the game on. To many this might be a dumb situation, the xbox guys tell me xbox, the PS3 crowd chants PS3, well I own both systems and for the first time Im stuck in the middle. I used to buy NCAA and Madden for one system only so i could import draft classes but with that gone it isnt a concern anymore. 2007-2011 Ive stuck with Xbox 360, 2012 was the first year i bought it for PS3 and while it had its ups and downs, it was decent.

What i seek from this title is the complete package: realistic, tight, smooth gameplay, good sound, a great picture for my isf calibrated L.E.D. tv, solid presentation, and an authentic experience as close as possible to what we see on Saturdays during the season. I know this is alot to ask (especially from EA) but i plan on spending a ton of time playing this game(before and after Madden 13)and want the best option; be it XBOX 360 or PS3.

The problem for me this year is the demo version of each. Now i know this is only the demo version, but in my opinion it says alot about what a developer thinks towards a build being "public ready" and can give you an idea of what to expect. The 360 version looks really smooth, has great colors, and the gameplay feels really responsive. The PS3 demo seems a little jerky at times(especially when teams head to the line from the huddle), the colors look a little washed out and the lighting is out of wack, as well as the horrible pop up texturing on the turf during replay.
The sound on both systems seems pretty equal through my 7.1 surround. I have a few friends on PSN and more on 360 that play this game also. So there ya go the 360 version seems to be the way to go.....so i thought. After playing 20+ games on each system , altering between the different teams available and the time of day, they both started to show problems.

The 360 version can show overdone motion-blur, this shows up more on ps3. Both have poor lighting during the early day Kansas St. v Baylor game; overdone and not very realistic. Stutter delays get frustrating when throwing to a reciever on both systems but mainly PS3. Then there's The annoying mishap of the QB lining up off center, Ive seen this on both but more often on 360.Framrate judders seem to be less frequent on 360, and quite often on PS3. One thing I will say that separates the two is the view from the pre snap, the ps3 seems to have a wider zoom than the 360 which i kind of like better. They both seem to have similar problems, but I kinda feel like the 360 version has less hiccups.

So, then there is the rumor that EA designs NCAA on xbox360 and then ports the build to PS3. I have researched this(to an extent) and found no solid proof. I have contacted EA(thought, what the hell)but didnt get anywhere with them. I m not surprised i guess, it is a business and theyre not gonna admit anything that might cause a media stir or alter sales. Though after the PS3 demo this year it makes me wonder if it isnt a direct port. I have also heard EA has two teams, one for each system, which could explain certain talent being better than the other or it could be due to hardware limitations, who knows?

Due to me being so obsessed im thinking of buying it for both, compare the two myself, and trade the lesser one in toward Madden 13. I envy those who only have one system as their choice is simple; buy it or dont. This is one situation for me where having options can be a downside. I am so glad MLB THE SHOW is only for one system. What gets me is its only this game that bothers me , I buy NBA 2K every year for 360 without even considering PS3. Glad to get this off my chest. Happy gaming OS members

Update: Bought it for ps3 for 3 reasons 1.All my friends bought it for ps3(better online dynasty opportunities) 2.Found out the community was doing a PS3 roster. 3. Easier stadium sound setup(too bad this feature is glitchy and not loud enough)

Regrets: Graphics wise I think the 360 version is alot smoother and has deeper colors than PS3( Made my neighbor bring his 360 copy over to compare).
While both versions seem to have their own problems, I think when EA patches the game and smooths out the wrinkles, Xbox will reign superior. Oh well, Ill definitely be getting Madden 13 on 360 without second guessing. No disrespect to PS3 fanatics.

I have the same problem man. But after reading what you just wrote, sounds like you've got you're answer which is Xbox. (I'm a ps3 guy). I'm buying mines for Xbox cuz I don't have any grown up games for it(I use it for kinect for the kids) and i wanna see how much better xbox live is over psn.iI'm definitely buying madden on ps3.

Xbox live feels like more people are online than PSN for this game(at least 12' did)but on the other hand PSN is free and xbox is pretty lame without live. Either way I hope you enjoy it, bro.

The PS3 s a direct port from the 360. The game is designed for the 360 because it has more limitations than the PS3, especially in disc space. It would not make sense to make the game on the more powerful system with a bigger disc and then "hope" it runs right in the lighter powered system. I've actually heard the producers mentioned port on numerous occasions.

Also, there is only one design team. I've heard that mentioned efore as well. If there were two, the PS3 version would be much deeper if fr no other reason than disc space. However, all sports games are direct ports from the 360 (unless PS3) only. This can further be verified by watching any EA released gameplay footage. It is always in the 360.

What you wrote makes alot of sense, I m really leaning towards the 360 version now.
